MyGeneration is unique due to its
emphasis on the family, both immediate
and extended. The importance of
communicating and motivating the whole
family is the key to enabling young
people to make positive changes for
themselves and their families. Parenting
is becoming more and more difficult
because disproportionate power is gained
by peer groups. Today's solutions look
outside the family and the community
for answers, further degrading the family
and community model.
Run from within the community, every
activity MyGeneration organises is
created and implemented with the goal
of social education to help replace some
of the vital soft skills and confidence
missing for many of our children,
families and young people. We are
based in North Kensington, which is
one of the poorest communities in
Western Europe, but we also serve
our surrounding boroughs such as
Westminster, Brent and Hammersmith
& Fulham. These initial target regions
are bursting with overcrowded estates
such as Lancaster West, Roots, Sutton,
Peabody, Wornington Green, Henry |

Dickens, Edward Woods, Queens Park,
Mozart, Trellik Towers and others
in Shepherds Bush and White City as well
as the many streets in-between. These
areas are a melting pot overflowing
with an abundance of cultures and
religions, where there can be language,
educational and social barriers for
immigrants and the indigenous poorer
communities, who lack employable
skills, which often create a continuous
sense of self-worthlessness and lack of
motivation. This repeatedly becomes a
characteristic passed on to our children.
With many recent high profile shootings
and stabbings as well as the incessant
drug dealing and gang warfare amongst
groups of youths who are little more
than children, this is the way of life for
many teenagers who live in the UK's
sink estates as well as our rural areas.
Crime breeds crime and the lives of
these children, their families and the
community are blighted, generation after
generation. The violent effects of this
disenfranchisement ripple out to impact
on the wider community and society at
large. |
