As part of the Delivering Race Equality (DRE) Action Plan, the Kensington & Chelsea Primary Care Trust (PCT) have recently provided funding to set up a new initiative, the 4minds Project, in order to improve mental health care and treatment to people from the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Communities. The partnership includes Kensington & Chelsea Social Council (KCSC), MyGeneration, the Dalgarno Neighbourhood Trust (DNT) and Chelsea Theatre.

The Project employs 3 Community Development Workers (CDW’s), a Community Researcher and Team Administrator who’s work objectives include:

  • Tackling stigma and raising awareness of mental health
  • Active participation and involvement of BME Communities in mental health policy and implementation
  • Promoting joint working and education within the statutory services and community & voluntary services

In real life this means that our CDW, Jill Watson, will be producing information for local people so that they can get a better understanding of mental health, the signs and symptoms, the causes and all the treatments that are available. Information will be available about how to access this help and Jill will be available to signpost people who ask for specific advice. In addition, she will be providing support and information on how to keep emotionally healthy and what to do if you’re worried about yourself, a friend or relative. Jill is also interested to hear about your experiences, good or bad, of the mental health services in Kensington & Chelsea.

Jill can be contacted at MyGeneration.
