Skills are needed to contribute to society: both extrinsic (jobs and careers) as well as intrinsic (parenting). There has to be an emphasis on social skills such as beneficial sustainable longterm relationships and self discipline, which entails regular attendance and participation at school. One of the key messages any society can give to its young people, is a love of education in all its forms. Empowerment
Poorer communities need to gain the skills to facilitate their own futures and move away from a model of managed communities. This would involve capacity building in a real way (e.g. development of personal responsibility,job skills, support and encouragement of enterprise). Communities need to learn they must be given the opportunity to build support networks within a community, which are essential to unify its structure. It is incredibly hard to make a difference in somebodyÍs life and it takes time and dedication. This is why we should empower people to develop the skills for their families. Attitude
Confidence and expectations need to be raised in what parents can achieve for, and with their children. Parents are the great untapped resource that we have. Children's futures should be planned by them and their parents and not by circumstance. Through our projects we look to achieve the following
· Develop children and the community to become self-supporting
· Increase social mobility: education, support, careers
· Increase academic achievement and self-investment
· Create future leaders and role models in the community
· Healthy, drug-free lives
· Training in parenting issues/skills, health and careers for adults
· Reduce criminality and increase community safety
· Reduce experience of social exclusion
Our model breaks the cycle of learned helplessness. This becomes possible through engagement, 2-way dialogue, education and academic achievement. - A community model - sustainable change must be driven from within

- When local people need help with legal, health, childcare, housing and money matters for themselves or friends and family, MyGeneration provides a one-stop shop for support, assistance and referrals for members of the community who understand and 'speak the same language'.
